Focused tuina
45 minFocused work on one or two areas, such as the neck and shoulders or the lower back. A good length for a first visit.
Book: Focused tuinaChinese tuina and reflexology in Piscataway
One therapist, one table and a quiet room. Sheng Guan works one session at a time, in Mandarin or English.

The tradition
Tuina is pronounced "tway-nah". It is a Chinese hands-on massage tradition in which the therapist presses, kneads, rolls and stretches with the hands, thumbs and forearms, at a steady rhythm.
It is not Swedish massage. There is less gliding and more work in one place at a time, and the pressure is firm and focused. You set how firm, and you can change it whenever you like.
Reflexology is a quieter session, with thumb and finger pressure on the feet and hands. Both are done with you covered by a sheet or towel the whole time.
A session
From the first question to the last minute.
A few minutes about the pressure you like and anything to leave alone, in Mandarin or English.
You lie on the table, covered by a sheet or towel. The room is warm and quiet.
Pressing, kneading and rolling, one area at a time. The part being worked on is uncovered, then covered again as we move on.
Lighter, firmer, a different position or stop. You can say so at any point, and we stop right away.

Yes. Only the part being worked on is uncovered, and it is covered again when we move on.
Before we start we ask what pressure you like and any area to leave alone. Tuina can be firm, so tell us at any time to go lighter or firmer.
Yes. Sheng speaks Mandarin and English, and you can book, talk through pressure and ask questions in either.
Ask your doctor before you book, and tell us when you arrive. We do not diagnose, and we will move a session if you are unwell.
