Before you come

Pressure, covering and your doctor

  • Pressure is yours

We ask before we start and again as we go. Lighter, firmer or stop is always one word away.

  • You are covered

A sheet or towel covers you the whole time. Only the part being worked on is uncovered.

  • What to wear and bring

Loose, comfortable clothing. We provide the table, linens and towels, so bring only yourself.

  • Ask your doctor first

If you are pregnant, or a doctor is seeing you for something that affects how you should be touched, ask them before you book.

Your therapist

Good to know

Questions before you come

What is tuina?

Tuina is a Chinese hands-on tradition. The therapist presses, kneads, rolls and stretches with the hands, thumbs and forearms, at a steady rhythm. It is done on a table, with you covered by a sheet or towel.

How is tuina different from Swedish massage?

Swedish massage is long, gliding strokes with oil across larger areas. Tuina stays longer in one place, with firmer, more focused pressure and more pressing and rolling than gliding. Both are done with you draped, and both let you set the pressure.

How do I set the pressure?

Before we start we ask what pressure you like and any area to leave alone. Tuina can be firm, so tell us at any time to go lighter or firmer.
